Lynn Varty | Assistant Deputy Minister | Traffic Safety Services | Transportation and Economic Corridors 

Lynn is the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) for Traffic Safety Services in Transportation and Economic Corridors. Her experiences in her current role and previous roles such as the immediate past Chair of the Canadian Council of Motor Transportation Administrators and ADM in Alberta Justice, means she brings wisdom and insight to any conversation.

Lynn is a visionary leader energized by exploring possibilities. She is a strategic thinker and a truth-teller. She has exceptional relationship building skills and an ability to bring diverse groups together to connect and discover possibilities.

Lynn received the Association of Canadian Court Administrators' Award of Merit (2008) for outstanding leadership, innovation and distinguished service in court administration and the Outstanding Achievement Award for Women in Leadership in the Alberta Public Service (2015). Lynn has volunteered with the United Way and has provided pro-bona coaching services to many aspirational leaders within the Public Service.

Lynn completed a Master of Arts degree with a focus on Leadership from Royal Roads University (2013) and an Executive Coaching Certificate from Royal Roads University (2014). Lynn is a member of the Project Management Institute and is certified in Prosci Change Management.


Andrew Pillman | Executive Director | Driver, Carrier and Vehicle Services | Traffic Safety Services | Transportation and Economic Corridors

Andrew has been involved in various aspects of the commercial carrier industry for almost 20 years. He has led teams responsible for multiple transportation specific programs such as Safety Fitness Certificates, the International Registration Program, and Over-dimensional and Overweight transportation. These are just a few of many.

Andrew graduated with a Degree in Criminal Justice from Athabasca University (2005) and joined the Government of Alberta shortly after. Throughout his career, he has performed various roles for TEC. Andrew started his career in Drayton Valley as a Transport Officer with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch, and then transferred to Red Deer where he became Lead Investigator for Carrier Services within Alberta Transportation which managed the National Safety Code program and monitored Alberta's 25,000 (at the time) carriers. Further, Andrew joined the TEC's Dangerous Goods unit as the Red Deer-based dually appointed provincial and federal Dangerous Goods Inspector. Then moved through multiple manager roles in National Safety Code and Permitting before landing in his current role as ED, of DCVS.


Kristin Ward Diaz | Executive Director Modernization and Strategic Integration | Traffic Safety Services | Transportation and Economic Corridors

Kristin is a proud public servant and has held a wide range of roles in her 12 years of service with the Government of Alberta (GoA). Prior to moving to Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC), Kristin was with the Public Service Commission as the Executive Director, Workforce Policy where she played a leadership role in modernizing the GoA's employee benefits and coordination and advice to the Deputy Minister Human Resources Integration Committee. She also had brief stints as the Director, Status of Women and the Senior Manager with the Alberta Health Emergency Operations Centre. Her formative years with the GoA included time as a Community Development Officer and Senior Manager with the Community Development Unit at Alberta Culture.

Kristin holds a Master of Public Administration (2012) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies (2006) from the University of Saskatchewan.

Not content with the status quo, Kristin considers herself ambitious, innovative, and adaptable. She is known for her leadership, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, mentorship, community development, and policy development expertise. She is committed to life-long learning and is an active mentor to many folks across the public sector.
